Every Child, everY SCHOOL, EVERY OPPORTUNITY
Before I tell you what I stand for, I want to hear from you. I welcome the opportunity to meet you in person - in living rooms, coffee shops, and community spaces. I also welcome the opportunity to engage in community forums and town halls with the other candidates. Please reach out and tell me your thoughts!
Beau Taylor is running for Troy School Board to ensure our children have the best education possible. I chose to live in Troy for the Schools, period.
VOTE AUGUST 4TH
Troy Schools face a $12 million structural deficit as one-time federal funding expires. Wayne County collects $108 million extra per year for their schools. Macomb County collects $55 million. Oakland County gets zero. On August 4th we fix that — $125 million annually, $781 per student, for six years. Every penny goes directly to our schools.
Pass the Millage First
Before platforms, before politics - August 4th. Oakland County Schools need this funding to stay competitive. I urge all candidates to come together to get this done.
Practical Leadership
Developed AND implemented policy that fixed Detroit's streetlights and restored power to Detroit Public Schools — 40% of streetlights out to less than1%, 200 lost school days reduced to near zero in one year.
Every Child. Every School. Every Opportunity
Every student deserves every resource — from the most advanced curriculum to the most specialized support. I will be an outspoken voice for every family that feels unheard, and I will never equivocate on what's right for our kids.
MY STORY
I Showed Up On Purpose
I moved to Troy specifically for these schools. My son Maxad is a 7th grader at Larson Middle School. When I saw this election was essentially uncontested, I did what I've always done: I showed up.
I'm the son of educators. My mother was a union (I prefer Association) president and later a building principal. My father was a teacher and coach before becoming an MEA leader. I was a substitute teacher early in my career and have always been a strong advocate for public education. I understand the history of education funding in Michigan from a very personal perspective.
I've spent 23 years in public service — fixing Detroit's streetlights, rebuilding communities overseas, managing hundreds of millions in public budgets. I don't just develop plans. I implement them. Troy Schools deserve both.
Maxad and me — the reason I'm here
Coaching Maxad's youth basketball team
Beyond the Resume.............
I coached my son's youth basketball and soccer teams for years. Wins and losses didn't matter as much as watching kids grow as a team.
After September 11th I volunteered in Lower Manhattan and spent the next eight years in economic development across the Middle East and Central Asia — helping developing economies grow and stabilizing communities during times of conflict.
I came to Detroit in 2011 and built a career fixing real problems for real people. I will do the same for our Kids. I came to Troy for my son. But I'm running for all our children.
JOIN THE CAMPAIGN
Between now and August 4th, the most important thing any of us can do for Troy Schools is pass the Oakland County Enhancement Millage. I'll be knocking doors across Troy to make sure every voter knows what's at stake — and I'd love your company. You don't have to support my candidacy to join me. Let's build a coalition of Troy parents and neighbors who care about our schools. Come knock doors with me. Then decide for yourself.
